ART AT BURNING SEED

Arts Director

Burning Seed Art 2010

Thank you so much for showing interest in presenting art that you would like to show and produce for this second year of Burning Seed 2011, the 2nd Australian Regional Burn.

As you well know this is our second burn here. And as you well know, we have to be respectful of the weather conditions here. We are cautiously approaching the idea of "let's just burn it all down".

If you are planning on building a large scale structure that requires a small crew to come onto site prior to the opening of the event, we will need to know this If you are planing on building a sculpture that will take a day to assemble. We will need to know this.

If you are planning on building a sculpture that you all intend to burn, we will ABSOLUTELY need to know this and all details submitted as and fires at this time of the year will require inclusion in our Permit to Burn !!!

I will personally also add that all of the applications for Burning Seed 2011 are reviewed by the Town Council's Arts Group so as to ensure that the quality of proposed artworks and their placement are relevant, and more importantly, that they resonate with the greater community. Finally, the safety of the community are put first and we honour our participants and their involvement.

If we are all on the same page, well, ...let us plan...

The Art Grant Cycle for Burning Seed 2011 is now open.

If you are interested in applying for an Art Grant with Burning Seed, please contact me and I will email you an Art Grant Application form.

Please take note of the dates that we are accepting applications for funding.

It started on 24th March 2011 and ends on 1st Sept 2011 Midnight WA (Perth) time.

(NB Art Grant Appliations have now Closed - However, you can still bring any unfunded Art or Installations to the Seed as your gift & are encouraged to do so.)

I will personally contact all of the participants whom have been awarded funding from Burning Seed on 12th Sept 2011.

We will distribute the funding in the weeks shortly after this.

If you are interested in applying, I encourage you to consider Art that is participatory and that engages your local community to get involved and assist you with your creation. If you are intending to build large and the budget for your Art exceeds our financial resources I will contact you to discuss other means of raising funds.

Burning Seed 2010 Site PhotoIf you are planning on building Art that you intend to burn you will need to take into a account that we require the following

1) a Burn plan
2) a safety plan
3) a leave no trace plan.

If none of these are included in your application we will NOT approve any funding for you or your team.

In closing I wish you all well and look forward to receiving your applications. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Like last year we would love to make our experience be one in which we are able to walk away and say... "that is what I have always wanted in a burn".

If this best describes what you and your fellow 'burners' intentions of this year's event are...

Please contact the Artery (Arts Team): arts (at) burningmanaustralia (dot) com

We are available to discuss all things pertinent to our experience this year.

Your Sincerely,

Paul Jorgensen.
