Deadline: October 1st, 2011 for Theme Camps requiring funding and October 15th for Theme Camps needing placement.
So you want organise a theme camp for Burning Seed?
Theme camps are the interactive core of the Burning Man ethos.
Theme camps should be participatory. Your theme camp should create an ambience, a visual presence, in some way provide a communal space or provide activity.
It may be the anchor for a larger event taking place. The best camps succeed by simplicity. Be prepared. Design with safety and simplicity in mind. Plan for the elements. Rain, Heat, wind, locusts etc will all be elements to be prepared for.
Plan for your camp to be completely autonomous. This includes power, water and building equipment. You will need to haul everything out that you've brought in. If your camp/structure is to be burned, be prepared to clean up any debris left over, including screws and nails. This is a LEAVE NO TRACE EVENT. That means cigarette butts, feathers and glittery bits, food scraps and ANYTHING that is not naturally part of your landscape and was not there before you arrived. Plan to spend at least one hour walking your site after you have packed up to pick up and pack it out.
If you wish to advertise your camp or events within your camp (stages, workshops, volunteers etc) you may publicise your plans on the Burning Man Australia website FORUM area. You may also recruit help on the Burning Man Australia Forums and submit your events in the Burning Seed WhatWhereWhen Program
All members of your camp MUST purchase tickets to the event.
Some factors that will affect your placement: Will people be passing through 24 hours a day or just at limited times of the day? Is the camp intended for daytime or nighttime activity? Are you planning to burn your camp? Do you prefer or require relatively peaceful surroundings?
To secure your Theme Camp Placement you will need to fill out the Theme Camp Questionnaire. Extra points for Early Birds ;) If you do not wish for your Theme Camp to be pre-placed at the event, you do not need to fill out the questionnaire.
